The Hamilton Broadway cast caused a lot of controversy with their Friday night’s performance when they addressed VP elect Mike Pence on how some Americans are feeling following Trump’s presidential elect.
Pence was bombarded with boos from the audience, and following the performance, the cast of Hamilton addressed the VP-elect with some words from “the diverse America.”
“I see you walking out but we have a message for you sir,” said cast member Brandon Victor Dixon. “We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us.”
Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda later tweeted out support for Dixon’s statement, as well as stating that “ALL are welcome at the theater.”
Donald Trump caught wind of the situation of course, and had some words to say as well on twitter.
Dixon then responded directly to Trump on Twitter, writing “conversation is not harassment sir. And I appreciate @mike_pence for stopping to listen.”
